About Us
Equity Services Ltd is a company in the shipping agency division of the organization and is a subsidiary of MAC Holdings Private Limited. Equity Services Ltd is a private limited liability company set up in June 1973, by Carson Cumberbatch & Co. Ltd.
Carson & Company has a long history of providing agency services to many shipping lines, boasting a significant record for having represented shipping giants in the likes of NYK Lines (Japan Mail Steamship Company), Ismay, Imrie & Co., (The White Star Lines) – Liverpool, the owner and operator of the famous ship Titanic & Cunard Line – Liverpool, the owners & operators of the famous Queen Elizabeth ships, Maersk Line, National Shipping Company Of Saudi Arabia. Maersk & NYK Lines opened their own offices. In addition, the company also represented marine insurance companies in the calibre of London Assurance Corporation, Phoneix Assurance Company Limited, Union Marine Insurance Company Limited and Tokio Marine Insurance Company Limited.
Carson & Company one of the oldest business houses established in 1860 merged with Cumberbatch & Company in 1947 to form Carson Cumberbatch & Company. With the government legislation introduced in 1973 to preclude commercial establishments engaged in the export of traditional produce from acting as shipping agents, resulted the incorporation of Equity Services Ltd as a fully owned subsidiary which saw all shipping functions performed by Carson Cumberbatch & Co.,being transferred to this organization.
A management buyout of Equity Services Limited (ESL) took place in early 1993 by its directors, resulted them to operate as an independent company while detaching its decades old relationship with Carson Cumberbatch & Co., Ltd. Although a controlling stake in ESL has been acquired by MAC, Mr. Vernon Edirisinghe who holds the balance share holding will continue to function as the chairman of the company.
Over the years ESL has refined its services to become more than just a provider of services related to cargo & passenger transportation and have a proud ownership of uninterrupted shipping license over 35years old.
We intend becoming an integral part of the efficient operational and commercial success of every voyage. Our team of local operational and financial experts will ensure that costs are reduced and vessel turn-around is as fast as possible, with our staff constantly motivated to achieve optimal results to the benefit of our principles. Our tailor made software application promises an efficient and accurate handling of agency functions exceeding our principal’s expectations in this increasingly imperative aspect of our industry.
Our 150 years experience and unstinted relationship with the Ministry of Ports and Shipping, Sri Lanka Ports Authority and Fisheries Harbor Corporation backed by a collective knowledge of a dynamic management team assisted by the latest information technology enables us to share the best practices and processes to develop superior solutions to all our business partners.
We represent international shipping lines and casual callers in Sri Lanka providing agency services in all commercial and fishing ports of Sri Lanka including Colombo, Galle, Hambanthota, Oluvil, Point Pedro, Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee. We are also specialized in project cargo handling & provide Tran-shipment handling to other Indian Subcontinent ports in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal & Republic of Maldives.
MAC will work with it’s principals hand in hand to establish a sales plan to fit the overall sales objectives of the principles and the agreed service proposition for the local market. We will prepare and implement a detailed strategic plan based on our existing relationships in the market, business from other MAC divisions and fundamental market dynamics of the country.
No matter what size your cargo is- from military tanks and road-building machinery to oil drilling and delicate telecommunications equipment – our shipping division will consider your cargo as our own. Its safety and on-time delivery is our main objective.
